Captain John Medearis

Captain John Medearis was my 5th g-grandfather and I am proud to say that we have had a veteran from every war since this one in our family....He was instrumental in obtaining supplies to our 1st President, George Washington's Army during that harsh winter on the Potomac. John obtained a great deal of land for his service. There is a Historical marker on this plot of land still today, called "Liberty" in TN where he retired and the old homestead still sits...We have in our family records that he was promoted to the rank of Captain on Dec 23, 1777...He married, had 5 children and went on to live a very long life...He passed away March 31,1834. age 90.    (Nov 2013)
