Kane Michael Funke1-5 was born on 12 Jul 1984 in Missoula, Missoula County, Montana1 and knew by the age of ten that he wanted to be a Marine7. He died on 13 Aug 2004 in Al Anbar, Iraq1, 4. He lived in Montana between 1984 and 1999 and moved to Vancouver, Clark County, Washington in 2001.2 From 2001 – 2003, Kane attended Heritage High School, participated in the ROTC program at Brush Prairie High School and was a member of the Fort Vancouver Sea Cadets.8

Kane Michael Funke1-5 was Killed in Action, and died from Hostile fire.6 He enlisted in the U.S. Marines in 2002, delaying his start until his graduation from Heritage High School in Vancouver, Clark County, Washington.8 He was a machine gunner and his final rank was Lance Corporal. He was assigned to E Company, Second Battalion, Seventh Marine, RCT-7, First Marine Division, Camp Pendleton, California.1 In 2004, while deployed under Terrorism Threat - Iraq - Operation Enduring Freedom, he was assigned to the Second Battalion, Seventh Marine Regiment, First Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center, Twenty-nine Palms California . He was buried in Polson, Lake County, Montana, USA (Lakeview Cemetery, 101 6th Ave East Polson, MT 598603-4).
