Stories

The official battle of Dallas, GA was a few days away when Daniel was wounded on 22 May 1864. He was evidently moved to Chattanooga where he was mustered out 4 September. He died 27 Nov 1864 at Chattanooga from the wounds received in battle at Dallas, GA.

Daniel was a son of Charles and Julia Ann (Johnson) Converse. He had a sister Dorcas Eleanor (sometimes called Ellen) Converse who married Peter Livingston; a son of Jacob Peter Livingston and Chairty Ann Umphenour; and a grandson of my ancestor Abraham Umphenour. In 1857 Charles Converse owned all of the north half of section 16 (320 acres) in Eppards Point Township. In 1867 this land is broken up with the major portion being owned by John T. Armstrong. Charles Converse is still a tax payer in the twp. as late as 1864.
