Fred was the son of the real-estate agent and noted collector of Texiana, Robert Fred Acree, of Moody and Waco, TX, and his wife, Anna Byrd McLeod. He was the husband of Mary Isabelle Rodgers, of San Antonio, and the father of three children: Mary Kathryn; Fred; and Anna Belle. He worked as a research scientist for the U.S. Department of Agriculture, in Washington, D.C., and was an avid outdoorsman and archery enthusiast. In addition to San Antonio, the Acrees lived in MD and afterwards moved to FL, where Mary died in 1968. After her death, Fred remarried.
