US Marine Cpl Gerald Lane Carmichael, Vietnam Veteran and Native of Kennewick, Washington.

US Marine Corporal Gerald Lane Carmichael was a casualty of the Vietnam War. As a member of the Marine Corps, CPL Carmichael served our country until October 15th, 1966 in Quang Tin, South Vietnam. He was 18 years old and was not married. It was reported that Gerald died from small arms fire. His body was recovered. Gerald was born on January 24th, 1948 in Kennewick, Washington. He served our country for one year.

Dear Jerry, The first 20 years I cried. The wall came: it helped, but I will always miss you. We were so close, like Irish twins. I felt so responsible for your death. When you walked up the ramp to the plane and we waved we both knew it would be that last time. You were just weeks from coming home, but your friends patrol was going out short and you could not let harm come to them. You protected them and you protected us.
