John Carl Ferguson was born to Thomas Jefferson Ferguson and Missouri Anne Harris. He married Mary Willie Boles in September of 1920. He became a post master. He had four sons: John, Alan, Robert, and Paul. During the Great War, John Carl caught the flu and didn't see combat while in France.

On November 26, 1918, Pfc. John Carl Ferguson, Sr., recieved a pass from his commanding officer to visit into Limoges, France. He was then in a military hospital at Limoges recovering from the influenza. The pass read as follows:

Battery C, 67th Artillery, C.A.C.
American Expeditionary Forces
November 26, 1918

The bearer Pvt. Ferguson has permission to visit Limoges until 7 P.M. tonight

John Carl Ferguson purchased a made-in-Limoges ceramic gravy pitcher while in Limoges and brought it home to his mother, Missouri Anne HARRIS Ferguson.

John served in the Missouri State Guard as an officer during World War II.
