Odell Smith, 70, of Laurel, MS, died Tuesday, February 8, 2000 at South Central Regional Medical Center in Laurel. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Memory Chapel Funeral Home in Laurel, with burial in the Sharron Cemetery in Jones County. The Revs. Stanley Doggett and Terry Baucum will officiate. A Baptist, he was retired from Laird Safety Service. He served in the Korean Conflict. He was preceded in death by his parents: L. J. Smith, Ruthie P. Smith; three brothers, Marlon Otis Smith, Matha C. Smith and Connie D. Smith; and one sister, Betty Faye Smith. He is survived by his widow, Viola Campbell Smith, son and daughter-in-law, James Odell and Judy Smith, daughters and sons-in-law, Flora E. and Phil Sims, Linda G. and Billy W. Hill, Betty J. and Billy A. Gray, Mary Susan and Mike Blakeney; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Daniel Hill, Nathan Gray, Jeffery Blakeney, Bruce Gable, Shannon "Tuddy" Spradley and Cody Grice. Honorary pallbearer will be Matthew Blakeney.
