Lorel Hary Benson (Swede). Born 19 October 1922 at Drumond, Idaho. Son of Harry L Benson and Anna Amelia Cherry Benson. He attended school at St.Anthony and Farnum, Idaho. He acquired the nickname of "Swede" during his teenage years and was commonly know by that name for the rest of his life. He entered the U. S. Marine Corps on his 18th birthday, 1940. He was in Pearl harbor during the infamous attack which initiated the Japanese hostilities of World War II. He saw active combat duty with the U.S Marines in the South Pacific area throughout the second World War. He was honorably discharged from the Marine Corps after the close of the war. He worked as a logger in the forest of Oregon and Northern California before moving to Southern California in 1948. Lorel married Gwen Reeder in 1952 and they made their home in North Hollywood, California. They had four children Cathy, Tom, Bryan and Steven. Gwen passed away in 1959 and "Swede raised the four children. He then married Helen Pauline Wilson and they have one son David. He recently worked as a Real Estate Salesman until his deterorating health forced him to quit. He passed away on January 7, 1978, after a long battle with cancer. He was known for his generosity and his willingness to help anyone who needed it even at his own expense. He was proud of his children and loved to see them achieve maturity and assume responsible roles in life. He will be remembered fondly by all those who knew and loved him.
