M/Sgt Loyd "NICK" Cresap

| England

Loyd Cresap was with the Ground Maintanence, with the "Bloody" 100th BG, the B-17, the HEAVIES, the 418thBS in Nether Warton, England.    His specialty was the Norden Bombsite and other complicated Bombsights.  He was awarded a Certificate of Merit for a small but immensley effective change in the bomb site, an electrical release modification on the "M-9 Bombsite" , his award was given by Maj Gen. E.E. Partridge.  WW II

********   He was also a Side Waist Gunner on the B-24 Liberator.   While he worked on the Norden bombsight and the C-1 autopilot, the citation he was awarded was for modifications on the release mechanism on the M-9 bombsight, which was approved and adopted by the 3rd Air Division of the 8th Air Force which materially contributed to the accuracy of bombing missions.  I have no idea what the differences in the bombsights are, but thought it worth noting.    One thing that I knew, but found interesting:  Daddy "Nick" enlisted in the Army Infantry in 1938 then joined the Army Air Corp which then became the Army Air Force.  He then joined the Air Force and when he left the Air Force he worked for the Navy U.S. Civil Service until his brain tumor was found-retired.  So he was in 3 branch of the military.  Written by Nick's daughter, Jan C Carithers, 16 Jan. 2010

"Nick" Married Lucile A Conter on May 9th, 1947.   Lucile was born 28 June, 1913 and passed 4 Feb. 1991.  "Nick" and Lucile had their 1st child, a daughter, Janice Marie Cresap on 25 March, 1948.   2 Years later along came son Michael Henry Cresap, born 27 June, 1950 and they had a half-sister, Sandra Lee Wentz, older, born on 5 Sept. 1942.

"Nick" died young but is remembered by his proud daughter, Jan Cresap Carithers.  Jan and her Husband Doug Catithers have a daughter, Autumn Renee Hardina born 24 May, 1966.  Doug Carithers passed after a short illness on 11 Nov. 2011.  He is greatly missed by Jan, his family and friends.

Jan's Brother Michael also has a daughter, Heather Cresap, born 20 May, 1972.

Jan's sister Sandra has a son, John Knight, born 14 August, 1961 and a daughter, Debbie Knight, born 28 April, 1963.
