Benjamin Edes the Baltimore Printer 1784-1832

Baltimore, MD

Benjamin Edes, born 25 April 1784, Boston Massachusetts, died 5 September 1832, Baltimore Md.
was a printer, like his father Peter, of Bangor and Augusta, Maine and his grandfather Benjamin of Boston, his business being that of a Book and Job printer in Baltimore. During the War of 1812, he was a Captain in the 27th Regiment of the Maryland Militia, later to attain the rank of Major, and later to attain the rank of Brigadier-General. In his printing business, one of the newspapers that he printed was the 'Baltimore Minerva and Emerald' being published from 1829 to 1830. Other printing included handbills and job printing.

His wife, Mary Ann Cuming had come from Ireland, as indicated in the census, but no town or location is listed.

Benjamin Edes'  Grandfather, Benjamin Edes the Boston Printer, of Boston Gazette and Country Journal fame, was one of the Sons of Liberty.
