Vera Massey

Vera was my great Aunt.

After my grandmother died & my mom was going to drug rehab Vera had her Oldest daughter driver her from Nesbit to Chicago to pick up myself & my brother. She wanted to bring us to live with her so that we didnt' go into the system.

I will never forget that day.

Soon after getting to MS we were having a family get together & Vera had, had a few too many beers and began to vomit..  I sat on the stairs & cried because I thought she was going to die like my Gran had not long done. She assured me that she was ok..  And other than an occasional white mountain wine cooler..  I don't think she ever drank alcohol again.... 

That was the kind of thing she always did. Sacrifice herself, her wants, her desires, her needs for someone else.....  There will never be anyone else like this woman.

But I strive everyday to be as much like her in my heart as I possibly can.
