15 March 1986 | False River, La.
Me (His Grandson) and him were fishing out at his camp over at False River catching 2-3 pound catfish when a storm cam rolling on up and it was getting late. Maw Maw (Kay Cotten) started yelling at us to get in. He looked at me and said I ain't going in until the fish stop biting. About an hour later she yell at us to get in or she will not cook for us. That was a big threat for us so we started reeling the lines in. The next thing I know I had a big catfish on the line then it got tangled in the a tree in the water. Me not knowing what to do he looked at me and said son you can't let that cat get off and that he would hold my pole while I jumped in the water. Me being 9 years old I figured he knew best. I was already cold and a little wet so I jumped in and got that catfish. Later on after hearing Maw Maw yell at us about being out there in the cold and rain. He told me he was glad that I decided to go in the water because there was not way he was going to get in the cold water. LOL If he did not have the right tool he would spend all day rigging something up instead of going to the store to buy the right tool. There ain't no telling how many wooden flat head screw drivers I have from him. He was the greatest Paw Paw that anybody could ever have. The best thing I learned from him is that he never changed who he was. He cared about 2 things God and his family everything else was just minor details. In church him and his brothers would sing "Old Rugged Cross".I know he is up in heaven now and God is right beside him and his brothers fishing. He enjoyed talking with anybody and everybody.
