Eldest son of Frank Armstrong Little and Margaret A. Chamberlain, of Corryton, TN. Adam trained as an educator, studying at Holbrook Normal College, in Knoxville. While attending college, he met his future wife, Jenny Alora Shelton, whom he married in 1899. When Jenny was diagnosed with tuberculosis, Adam moved the family to Grand Island, FL, on the doctor's advice. There, he became a merchant and the town postmaster. The Littles had four children: Frank S. (died in infancy); Margaret Marie; Sara Ellen; and Paul Ninian. Sometime after Jenny's death in 1922, Adam returned to the homeplace in TN to spend his final years; he died there in 1936. His first name was often spelled "Ninnian" in documents or directories, but it is written as "Ninian" on his gravestone.
