USMA Class of 1949, First Lieutenant Paden was a member of the 61st Field Artillery Battalion, 1st Cavalry Division. He was seriously wounded while fighting the enemy in South Korea on September 20, 1950. and died of those wounds later that day. For his leadership and valor, First Lieutenant Paden was awarded the Silver Star, the Purple Heart, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
