Sergeant Neale was a veteran of World War II, taken prisoner during the "Battle of the Bulge". In Korea, he was a member of Company G, 2nd Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action while fighting the enemy near Toksangh along "Bloody Ridge", North Korea on September 15, 1951. For his leadership and valor, Sergeant Neale was awarded the Silver Star, the Purple Heart, the Combat Infantryman's Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the European Theater of Operations Medal, the Prisoner of War Medal, the Republic of Korea War Service Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.
