Private Hulburt was a member of Company G, 2nd Battalion, 27th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action while fighting the enemy in South Korea on August 11, 1950. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial. Private Hulburt was awarded the Purple Heart, the Combat Infantryman's Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
This is confusing so stick with me here....The Gary Hulburt listed here is actually the brother of Gary Hulbert named James Peter Hulbert. Jimmy enlisted in the service under his brothers name...so it was actually James P. Hulbert that died in the Korean war. Then the real Gary enlisted using another brother's name. He enlisted under the name of Thomas Hulbert who actually died in infancy.
