This is an excerpt from a book I'm writing, The McCreary Family History which will be published in 2014. More information is available at mmccre8814@aol.com.

John W.5 McCreary, born 1901, Omaha to William Wallace McCreary and Catherine Robinson, and died 26 March 1945 and is buried at sea near Honolulu, Hawaii. In 1920 he was living with his parents in Omaha and listed as John W., 19, sailor. He married Selma Lucia Nordeman who was born 28 March 1902, California and died 1 May 1983, Walnut Creek, Contra Costa, California as Selma Tyler.[i]    

He served in World War II as a Chief Carpenter’s Mate in the United States Nancy and was listed as a Chief Quartermaster. He died 26 March 1945 and is listed on the Tablets of the Missing at Honolulu Memorial and is buried at sea. He received the Purple Heart.[ii]
