Battle on the VERKAM

VERKAM River, Dutch New Guinea

T/Sgt. Reynolds was actually killed in action fighting Japanese troops at the mouth of the VERKAM River on the date indicated.  The date of 30 September, 1944 was assigned by the Army for purposes of memorialization.  The Army knewof the facts indicated above and did not inform the next of kin the parents of technical Sgt. Reynolds.  Instead they were informed his aircraft went down at sea.
