Circumstances of death

Woolacombe, England

One of eleven army personnel killed in training accident when three LCM's carrying tanks capsized in heavy surf at U.S. Assault Training Centre. One US Navy officer killed, two other US Navy personnel missing in same accident. Witnessed by US army officer who saw these landing craft drift away from their designated landing spot and in turning to correct the drift, became broadside to the surf and capsized.
