Distinguished Service Cross citation:

Date of Action: September 29, 1918

Citation: The Distinguished Service Cross is presented to Samuel T. Adams, First Lieutenant, U.S. Army, for extraordinary heroism in action near Exermont, France, September 29, 1918. After all the other officers of his company had become casualties, Lieutenant Adams reorganized his company and led it brilliantly in the assault on the town of Exermont.   He was killed later during the consolidation of the new position.
