Summary

Joseph Lincoln (Lincoln) Black was the younger son of Samuel H. B. Black (1808-1847) and Frances Matilda (Fanny) Merwin (1815-1844), who lived in Newark, NJ, and later in Natchez, MS. After the death of his parents, he and his two siblings, Frances R. and Merwin, went to live with Rev. Augustus Pomeroy (1795-1875) in such places as Lacon, IL, and Groton, NY.
