Dr. John Campbell Brewer was born near Montgomery, AL, in 1847. He graduated from the medical school of the University of Georgia, Augusta, in 1871 and set up practice at Mount Meigs, AL. In 1875, he moved to Dallas, TX, and then to Caldwell Co., eventually settling in Lytton Springs, where he spent the rest of his long medical career. In 1877, Dr. Brewer married Margaret Louisa Cardwell, with whom he had six children. He died in 1920.
