Fourth son of James Chamberlain and Sarah Runnels Barton. First married Margaret Eugenia Crume, of Brown Co., with whom he had five children: Charles Wesley; John Lane; Thos. Wright (Doc); Louis Sumpter, Jr.; and Margaret (Maggie). In 1892, Margaret Eugenia died, and he soon married Thurza Isabell Mullins. To this union were born seven children: Rufus Brooks; Nettie Mae (Mae); Marshall Mood; Homer Thrall; Horace Bishop; Roberta Belle; and Joseph Burkett. L. S. Chamberlain attended Southwest University in Georgetown, TX. He became a Methodist minister and circuit rider, travelling on horseback from town to town to preach the Gospel. He was also one of the early Methodist pastors in Burnet Co. Furthermore, he spent many years teaching public school in several TX counties.
