Mary Eaton's father, James, died intestate in Hamilton Twp., Cumberland Co., PA, in 1776. Among the records found in the archives of the Cumberland County Orphans' Court is a 1778 petition filed by his eldest son, John, along with several accompanying documents, which together provide conclusive proof that Mary was the widow of Daniel Carmichael and she married James Thompson.
