Son of Richard Chamberlain (1723-1789) and Mary Stout (1730-1790), who moved from Hunterdon Co., NJ, to Washington Co., PA. Freegift married Elizabeth Whitaker and had seven children: John; Thos. J.; Rachel; Wm.; Elizabeth; Nancy; and Mary. By 1820, the family was living in Fairfield Co., OH, and, by 1830, they were residing in Licking Co., OH. Around 1835, the Chamberlains relocated to IN.
