Second son of Lawson Watkins Chamberlain (1860-1947) and Susan Olive Frey (1860-1953). Served in the U.S. Navy in WW I. Trained to be a Methodist minister. Uncle Alvin was a farmer and an active member of the American Legion. He was also the Chamberlain family writer and family historian and was fond of writing letters to the editor on political topics. Never married. He continued to live in his parents' home, helping to take care of his invalid sister as well the orphaned children of his deceased brother, Robert Pleasant. Alvin moved to Lubbock along with his parents and sister in the mid-1940s.
