Came to America from Scotland with parents, Cornelius Carmichael and Isabella Unknown. Eventually settled in Wayne Twp., Cumberland Co., PA. First married Jeanette Thompson with whom he had a daughter; with his second wife, Isabella Pomeroy, he had a family of thirteen children. After his brother Daniel died while serving in the Revolution in Dec. 1777, he and his family moved to be with his mother, her new husband, James Thompson, and his brother James in TN. This occurred around 1792. He took his family to live in Jonesborough, Washington Co., where he died in 1799.
