Elizabeth (Betsy) Chamberlain Carney

Youngest daughter of Jeremiah Chamberlain and Margaret Carmichael, of E. TN. Wife of John Carney, whom she married in Grainger Co. in 1821. Elizabeth and John had seven children: Mary Green; Margaret Martha; Musey D.; Catherine R. A.; Napoleon B.; Jane E.; and Sarah L. Some time after 1835, the Carneys moved to Johnson Co., MO, where John died in 1839. Johnson Co. was located on the periphery of MO's "Little Dixie" region and, during the Civil War, became a hotbed of strife and guerrilla warfare, which apparently exacted a heavy toll on the Carney family. Some of the Carney daughters married Confederate "bushwhackers"; others wed Union men. Passions were exceedingly high. Elizabeth apparently died after 1850. The exact date and place of her death are not currently known.
