445th BS Mission Summary: (Ops Order 258/mission 257) Group Mission # 220: Today’s mission was to bomb the Orte marshalling yards. It cost this Squadron one plane – Lt. Newkirk and his crew – to attacks by enemy fighters. Sgt. Cecil F. Carson, turret gunner in the Squadron claimed a Focke Wulf 190 in the battle between the B-25’s and about 8 Focke Wulf 190’s.

2Lt. Renford R. Newkirk was a Pilot of B-25 Mitchell Medium Bomber Aircraft, with the U.S. Army Air Force, 12th Air Force, 57th Bombardment Wing, 321st Bombardment Group, 445th Bombardment Squadron, stationed in the MTO during WW2.
On 21 February 1944, His Plane was shot down over the bombing target of the Orte Marshalling Yards, by German Enemy FW190's (Focke-Wulf 190's).
2Lt. Newkirk's Plane crashed and exploded on impact with the ground, killing all 6 crew members on board.NEVER FORGET his Service & Sacrifice.
