Son of Wm. Wallace (1737-1799) and Mary Wallis (b. 1739), of Blount Co., TN, Col. Matthew Wallace first married Rachel Elizabeth McGhee (1785-1815). After her death, he took Mary Houston (1797-1854), the sister of Gen. Sam Houston, as his second wife.
