PROOF OF INCURRENCE OF DISABILITY
State of Indiana, County of Dearborn
Personally appeared before me, a Clerk Circuit Court in and for the aforesaid County and State, duly authorized to administer oaths, George Schite?, aged 50, a resident Guilford in the County of Dearborn, and State of Indiana, who being duly sworn according to law states that he is acquainted with Jonas McKee, applicant for Invalid Pension, and knows the said Jonas McKee to be the identical person of that name who served as a prv in Company H, 83 Regiment of Indiana, and who was discharged at Keokuck, Iowa on or about the 3rd day of April 1863 by reason of re-enlistment in Marine Service.

That the said Jonas McKee, while in the line of his duty at or near Memphis in the State of Tennessee did on or about the (blank) day of November 1862, become disabled in the following manner, viz while on a march to the Tallahatchie river he was taken sick with the measles which measles resulted in disease of lungs, throat, and eyes; that said diseases of lungs, throat, and eyes afflicted soldier while he was in the service aforesaid; his eyes were seen inflamed & watery, he was feverish, face flushed, could hardly talk, & complained of eyes, throat, chest, & lungs.

That the facts as above stated are personally known to affiant by reason of being with the soldier and seeing him afflicted as above stated and hearing him complain.

Affiant says he did not write this affidavit but that same was written by D. F. Noyes? in his office at Laurenceburg Indiana in affiant's presence from oral statement made to him by affiant on Jan 27 / 94.

And deponent further states that he is well acquainted with the claimant having known him for about 30 years and further that his knowledge of the facts above stated was derived from having served as a prv in Company H of the 83 Regiment of Indiana from the day of Aug 1862 to the day of Jun 1865. And deponent further states, that the claimant was a sound, able-bodied man at enlistment so far as he knew and could judge and that he has no interest, direct or indirect, in this claim and is not concerned in its prosecution.

That his Post Office address is Laurenceburg, Ind.

On this 9 day of June, A.D. one thousand nine hundred and thirteen, personally appeared before me, a Notary Public within and for the county and State aforesaid, Jonas McKee who, being duly sworn according to law declares that he is 71 years of age and a resident of National Military House, county of Grant, State of Indiana, and that he is the identical person who was enrolled at Lawrenceburgh Ind under the name of Jonas McKee on the 17 day of Aug 1862 as a Pv in Company H 83 Reg Ind Ift in the service of the United States in the Civil war and was honorably discharged at Vixburgh Miss on the 4 day of Apr 1863.

That he also served Company K Miss. Marine Corps Apr 4 1863 dis Jan 21 1865.

That he was not employed in the military or naval service of the United States otherwise than as stated above.

That his personal description at enlistment was as follows Height 5 feet 10 inches; complextion Lt., color of eyes (blank); color of hair (blank); that his occupation was (blank); that he was born May 15 1842 at Lawrenceburgh Indiana.

That his several places of residence since leaving the service have been as follows Indiana and Military House, Ind.

That he is a pensioner under certificate No. 1034585. That he has (blank) applied for pension under original No.(blank).

That he makes this declaration for the purpose of being placed on the pension roll of the United States under the provisions of the act of May 11 1912.

That his post-office address is National Military House, county of Grant, state of Indiana, Hospital.

On this 27" day of December, one thousand eight hundred and eighty seven, personally appeared before me John H Russe, Clerk of the Circuit Court, a Court of Record within and for the County and State aforesaid, Jonas McKee, aged 46 years, a resident of Lawrenceburg in the County of Dearborn in the State of Indiana, who being duly sworn according to law, declares that he is
the identical Jonas McKee who enlisted in the service of the United States at Manchester, County of Dearborn, State of Indiana, on the 17" day of September 1862 as a Private in Company "H" of the 83" Regiment of Indiana Vols, commanded by Capt. James M Crawford and was honorably discharged at Keokuck, State of Iowa, on the 4" day of April 1863. That his personal description is as follows Age 46 years; height 5 feet 10-1/2 inches; complexion Light; hair Light; eyes Gray. That while a member of the organization aforesaid, in the service and in the line of his duty at or
near a place called Memphis, State of Tennessee, on or about the month of November 1863 (2)in different handwriting) Contracted Measles, resulting disease of throat and lungs and disease of eyes. Caused by marching through hard rains and sleeping on the wet ground and Exposure.

Was treated in Hospital at Memphis Tennessee for about three weeks during the month of November 1863(2)in different handwriting) from where he was transfered to the 5th Street Hospital at Keoku Iowa where he remained under treatment for about three months.

That he has not been employed in the military or naval service otherwise than as stated above except Co "K" Marine Brigade.

Since leaving the service he has resided in Posey and Dearborn Counties Ind and his occupation has been that of a Cooper. That prior to his entry into the service above named, he was a man of good, sound, physical health, being when enrolled a Cooper.

That he is now physically disabled from obtaining his subsistence by manual labor by reason of his injuries above described, received in the service of the United States; and he therefore makes this declaration for the purpose of being placed on the invalid pension roll of the United States.

He hereby appoints with full power of substitution and revocation Maring & Slusher of Columbus, State of Indiana, his true and lawful attorney, to prosecute his claim. That he has not received, not applied for a pension.

His postoffice address is Lawrenceburg County of Dearborn State of Indiana

On this 3" day of October A.D. 1900, personally appeared before me John O France, a Notary Public within and for the County and State aforesaid, Jonas McKee, aged 59 years, a resident of the Nat Mil Home, County of Grant, State of Indiana who, being duly sworn according to law, declares that the is the identical Jonas McKee who was enrolled on the 4th day of Sept 1862 in Co H 83rd Regt Ind Inft Vols in the service of the (blank) on the 4th Day of April 1863.
That he has (blank) been employed in the military or naval service otherwise than as stated above, April 4" 1863 enlisted in Co K 1st Miss Naval Brig Trans Aug 1864 to Co K Marine Regt US Vols Finale dis from Marine Brig Jany 21st 1865.
That he is totally unable to earn a support by manual labor by reason of disease of lungs, throat, and eyes result of measles. Rheumatism. Heart disease and disease of kidneys all resulting in general disability. That said disabilities are not due to his vicious habits, and are to the best of his knowledge and belief permanent. That he has applied for pension under application No. 634.367 under general law and rejected.
That he makes this declaration for purpose of being placed on the pension-roll of the United States under the provisions of the act of June 27 1890 as amended by Act of May 9 1900.
He hereby appoints with full power of substitution and revocation, Edward Conde of Nat Mil Home Ind his true and lawful attorney to prosecute this claim, the fee to be Ten Dollars as prescribed by law. That his Post-Office Address is National Military Home, County of Grant, State of Indiana.

There is no Bible Baptismal Family record or any other record of his birth in existance at this time. All the record he has is from memory as taught him by his parents when a boy and they taught him he was born May 15" 1842 and to the best of his knowledge and belief the above statements are true.
