Youngest son of Lt. Col. Jas. Chamberlain (1745-1819) and Ann Sample Chamberlain (1769-1843), of York/Adams Co., PA. Never married. Resident of Kanawha Co., VA (later WV) in 1850. Moved to St. Louis, MO, during or towards the end of the Civil War. There he became a prominent merchant. Traveled extensively, paying frequent visits to friends and relatives in other cities and states, with whom he kept a frequent correspondence. Was a long-term resident of several St. Louis hotels. He died while living at the Southern Hotel.
