The second son of Ninian and Jennet Chamberlain. During the American Revolution, he served as a soldier in the SC Pickens Brigade and in the SC militia. He apparently fought for NC as well. In 1782, he married Hannah Lackey in western NC, which would later become the state of TN. John and Hannah had six children: Anne E.; Ninian; Mary (Polly); Jane (Ginny); Isabella; and Margaret. When John died at the age of 51, his widow Hannah and older brother Jeremiah were appointed as administrators of his estate. He died in a part of Knox Co. that was soon to become Blount Co.
