Reportedly the son of Wm. and Mary Chamberlin, along with brothers Robert and Wm., Jr., and perhaps another brother named John. Maj. Arthur Chamberlin, Sr., is said to have been married three times: first, to a woman whose name was either Margaret Hodge or Unknown McCandless; second, to Sarah Morrison; and third, to Rosanna Slaught. In all, he had some twelve children: Wm., Samuel, and Margaret by his first marriage; James, Elizabeth, and Sarah by his second; and Robert, Nancy, Arthur, Jr., Mary, Washington, and Cephas by his third. According to some sources, Arthur fought in the Revolution. He was a major in the Washington Co. militia and an active member of the Democratic Republican political party. Surname appears to be spelled "Chamberlin" on his headstone, but it is often written as "Chamberlain" elsewhere, including what seem to be samples of his signature in cursive.
