Ninian Chamberlain
The eldest son of Jeremiah Chamberlain (1740-1829) and Margaret Carmichael (1765-1821), of Grainger Co., TN. In 1817, Ninian Chamberlain, named for his paternal grandfather, married Margaret Watkins, in Jefferson Co., TN, and went to live in a log house on a plot of land near Corryton, Knox Co., just east of House Mtn., which his father had given the couple as a wedding present. Jeremiah, a surveyor, had apparently received the property as a land grant for his service during the Revolution. For the next 60 years, Ninian Chamberlain would live in the same location, which he farmed and where he and Margaret would raise a family of 9 children: Mary J.; Daniel Carmichael; Wm. H.; Anne E.; Jeremiah J. (Jerry); Ara Jane; Thos. A.; Margaret A. (Maggie); and Ninian Abraham (N. A.). Some of them stayed in TN, while others moved on to TX. Margaret died in 1863. Ninian was for many years a justice of the peace for the eastern area of Knox Co. Chamberlain-Little cemetery is located on the farm.
