The wife of James Chamberlain (1809-1889), Sarah was the daughter of Wm. Barton (1788-1840) and Hannah Oliphant (1787-c1883) and the granddaughter of Rev. Isaac Barton (1746-1831) and his wife, Keziah Murphy (1787-c1883). (Sarah's uncle, David Barton, 1783-1837, was the first U.S. senator from MO in 1821; his brother, Joshua Barton, 1792-1823, was the district attorney for the new state.) James and Sarah Chamberlain were married in Johnson Co., MO, in 1841, moving to TX in 1847 or 1848. They eventually settled in Burnet Co. and were the parents of nine children: Wm. Jeremiah (1843-1924); John Tate (1845-1919); Thos. Andrew (1849-1926); Josephine Catherine (1851-1948); Louis Sumpter (1854-1932); Daniel Ninian (1857-1947); Lawson Watkins (1860-1947); Burkett Barton (1864-1942); and Cora (c1867-c1872).
