Thought to have arrived in the American colonies from Ireland in about 1742, along with brother James. (Another brother, Ninian, reportedly came later, around 1756; he settled in western NC, which later became East TN.) Both Jeremiah and James purchased land in Orange Co., VA, in 1742, and, around the same time, Jeremiah married Margaret Hamilton, whom, it is claimed, he had met on the boat over from Europe. The couple had five children: John; James; Ann; Ninian; and Martha. Son James was born in Lancaster Co., PA, in 1745, and father Jeremiah appears on the 1751 tax list for York Co., PA. Jeremiah died in York Co. in 1776. In 1800, the part of York Co. where the Chamberlains lived became Adams Co., PA.
