John Bartelle Shepherd

John Bartelle Shepherd, 81, passed away December 27, 2009 in North Richland Hills, Texas. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Verda, daughter Francie Cooper and husband Steven, son Jamie Shepherd and wife Patty, grandchildren, Brady Cooper, Dalton Shepherd, Karen Cooper and Victoria Shepherd. John is also survived by his sister Ann Roach and husband Clyde of Los Alamos, Brothers Bill Shepherd, Jim Shepherd and wife Jonell of Albuquerque and many other family and family friends. Mr. Shepherd was born in Owosso, Michigan and moved to New Mexico during his youth. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and retired from the New Mexico National Guard. He was a master wood and leather craftsman and was proud to have built furniture for Hodgin Hall Lettermen’s Club at UNM. John loved to cook, sing, Dance and read. He attended Albuquerque High and was a graduate of the University of New Mexico. Mr. Shepherd taught drafting for 20 years at Del Norte High School. A service will be Thursday, December 31, 2009, 11:00 a.m. at French Mortuary Lomas location with burial following at Fairview Cemetery. Friends may visit Wednesday, 5:00-7:00 p.m.
