Jimmie Mayemura was Japanese. He was injured in combat on October 30th and died in Japan several days later during surgery while trying to remove a piece of shrapnel that was wedged in his head, He died instantly according to Col. David Hackworth. He along with several others saved Col. David Hackworth and the rest of the men fighting on that hill.
