Jimmy was my cousin. When I started school, we went to the same school. And though he was quite a bit older and bigger than I, he looked after me on the way to and from school. He played clarinet in the high school band.

After my dad moved us back to Texarkana, it was always a great time when Jimmy and family came home for a visit.

When he came home on leave after he won his paratrooper's wings, he gave a small one to me. He soon went to battle and was captured on his first jump over Sicily and spent the remainder of the war in Stalag 2B, Hammerstein, West Prussia and released in July 1945. We received word of his release on his 24th birthday.

He stayed in the Army as a paratroop instructor. Retired and lived in Conyers, GA at the time of his death.
