2012 | WAYNE, MI
CHAMES NICHOLAS ACHILLES Age 80, of Wayne, died peacefully Tuesday of Alzheimer's disease. Dr. Chames was a gentle soul who entered this world on December 5, 1931 in Waukesha, WI, son of the late Frances Ciolino and Achilles Chames. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy after high school, after which he attended the University of Detroit, studying Chemistry and Dentistry. Following dental school, he joined the Navy Reserves, and proudly served until he retired as Commander in 1989. Dr. Chames practiced dentistry in Wayne where he was a member of the Wayne Rotary. A lover of opera, he was a renaissance man who could make or fix almost anything. Most of all, he will be remembered as a profoundly kind, generous, and compassionate man whose smile will be deeply missed by family and friends. He is survived by his beloved wife, Mary, of 53 years, and his four loving children Frances (Tim Fritz) of Grand Rapids, Michael (Mary Ann) of Jackson, Robert of Northville, and Mark of Ann Arbor. He is further survived by grandsons Nicholas, Christopher, and Matthew, as well as brothers Salvatore and Anthony.
