ADAH Civil War Service Database Records Verify that John entered service in Company A, Alabama 37th Infantry Regiment, CSA, on 14 April 1862 at Abbeyville, Henry County Alabama. Muster-in roll, Auburn Alabama 13 May 1862. POW & WIA at the battles of Iuka-Corinth-Hatchie Mississippi. He was WIA at Corinth on 13 October 1862; WIA at Vicksburg and apparently died of his wounds. He is buried in an unknown grave in Soldiers Rest plot of Cedar Hill City Cemetery, Vicksburg Mississippi. A Report dated 18 September 1863 at Enterprise Mississippi listed him as killed or died of wounds or disease at Vicksburg. Charity Riley, his widow, filed a claim for benefits on 16 February 1864.
