Brothers Francis and Raymond Cychosz
December 7, 1941 | Pearl Harbor, HI
Francis Cychosz / USS Arizona, sent a photograph of himself standing in front of the Iolani Palace, home to his Mother, Mrs. Josephine Cychosz and cousin Florence Cychosz in Bessemer, Michigan.
Francis' older brother Raymond Cychosz, a member of the famed 10th Mountain Division, was seriously wounded, paralyzed from the waist down, while capturing Hill 802 near Torre Iussi, Italy. Raymond was awarded the Bronze Star for helping to take out a German machine gun after he had been wounded. April 14, 1945, little more than 2-weeks before the Germans surrendered in Italy.
Their father had been killed in an accident at work when the boys were infants. The lumber truck that he was driving was hit at a crossing by a railroad locomotive.
