Colonel Edward A. King

Edward Augustin King was born in Cambridge, New York on April 3rd, 1814.  He would move to Ohio as a young man.  King would serve in the Texas War of Independence as a Volunteer and then in the War with Mexico as a Captain in the 15th United States Infantry.  King would marry Sarah McNaughtin in Dayton and after his return from Mexico find himself appointed Postmaster of Dayton by President Pierce.  With the outbreak of the Civil War he would be offered the rank of Colonel in the 68th Indiana a rank he would hold until his death at the Battle of Chickamauga, September 20th, 1863.  In the chaos that followed the battle the men of his regiment made sure his body was accounted for a removed from the battlefield to be taken back to Dayton for burial.
