First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Air Force during WWII. Uncle Bob co-piloted the B-17 Flying Fortress "Sugar Puss." He was shot down over Italy during his 50th bombing mission. After much determination, his widow Ruby Lee (Edson) McCarty Steele finally was able to secure all his war medals posthumously including the Purple Heart. Uncle Bob was my mother's only brother and my grandmother's only son. More documentation and photos to follow.
