Robert M McDowell Jr enlisted in the Army 2 January of 1941. He served in the Army Air Corps during WWII in the 448th Bomb Group, 2nd Air Division of the 8th Air Force. He was stationed at Seething in England during WWII.
Robert McDowell also served during the Korean conflict, and in Vietnam.
Robert McDowell was stationed at Eglin AFB during his assignment to the 3211th Field Maintenance Squadron. He had other assignments: 57th Maintenance Squadron, Elmendorf AFN AK, 405th Fighter Squadron Clark AFB, Philippines, 4108th Organizatinal Maintenance Shop of the 497th Refueling Wing Plattsburgh AFB, NY, and Organizational Maintenance Shop 509th Bomb Wing Pease AFB, NH. He retired from the US Air Force in 1968 as a Chief Warrant Officer, W-4 Aircraft Maintenance Officer. After completing 26 years of military service, Robert and his family returned to Ft Walton Beach, FL when he retired.
