As I was looking through the "free" photographs from WWII on Fold3 yesterday I came across this photo of Norbert Ruff. I was saddened to learn that he had passed away in 2007. Early that year I had contacted him to see if he could tell me anything about my Uncle who was shot down in the Pacific. I had found a letter in my Uncles correspondence where he spoke about Norb and that is why I contacted him. He was such a nice man and told me a lot of interesting things about the P38 Fighter Pilots. Then one day I got a letter from him and a photograph of several of the Pilots who were stationed at Port Moresby, New Guinea - included in the group was my Uncle. It was such a joy to have a photo of him during that time. Norbert Ruff was an Ace Pilot and also wrote an autobiography called the Ruff Stuff. You never know who can add to your family history. May he forever soar with the eagles - God Bless you Norb Ruff!
