Bob Crane starred as Col. Hogan on the hit sitcom Hogan's Heroes. The show takes place at a prisoner of war (POW) camp for Allied airmen in World War II Nazi Germany. There are several prisoners there and Col. Hogan is often the highest ranking officer in the camp and thus the leader among the prisoners.
Throughout the series, Col. Hogan shows that he is a mastermind at thinking up operations for the prisoners there to do. He also shows his incredible problem solving skills, coming up with solutions to overcome enormous problems. Even though they are prisoners of war, they are still able to sneak out and perform acts of sabotage against the Germans by means of tunnels and a manipulation of the camp's commander, Col. Klink. The acts of sabotage are brought to the forefront in certain episodes and Col. Hogan is questioned about whether or not he knows anything about these matters, which he always denies.
Col. Hogan is also shown as one to "get the girl" in the show and is shown from time to time passionately kissing. Other prisoners will jump at the chance to work with a female operative in any mission they may undertake whereas Col. Hogan is more calm when it comes to this. He also has an ongoing romance with the secretary of the camp's commander, her name being Helga when the series started, but was changed to Hilda when the original actress (Cynthia Lynn) was replaced by another actress, Sigrid Valdis. Col. Klink's secretary helps the prisoners from time to time by providing access to information and documents.
Sigrid Valdis and Bob Crane were actually married in 1970.
