Howard E, Hawley Sr.

| Ohio, USA

Howard Earl Hawley Sr. was born to Delano John (DJ) and Adeline (Addie) Smith Hawley on 5 June 1886 in Milford Center, Union, Ohio.  About 1893 this family, including brothers Chester G. (Sr) and Perry D. Hawley moved to Columbus, Franklin, Ohio and settled near the Ohio State University.  Howard attended Columbus Schools and went on to Ohio State, where he graduated in 1909 with a Law Degree (with High Honors).  Shortly after this he was married to Jessie Eliza Hafford of Columbus.  They moved West, settling in Portland, Multnomah, Oregon.  They resided here for a few years, and had 3 children, 2 of which survived.  In the early 1920s they moved back to Ohio, settling in Harlem TWP, Delaware County.  Here 2 more children were born to Howard and Jessie.  Once Howard had established a 14 acre farm, he began an egg and produce route in Columbus.  In 1932 he was appointed Justice of the Peace of Harlem Township.  He was re-elected to this position in 1936, 1940 and 1944.  He retired from public service in 1948, working his produce route.  He died on 25 June 1965 in hospital in Delaware, Delaware, Ohio.  He is buried in Sunbury, Delaware, Ohio.
