Paul C. Schierloh served as Ball Turret Gunner aboard SKIPPY, one of the original B-17s into Framlingham. He flew under George W. Harmon, pilot, with Crew 30 (390th Bomb Group/570th Squadron) until the crew was disbanded following Harmon's completion of his 25th mission. The crew had flown its first mission on August 12, 1943 (Bonn), which was also the 390th first mission.

Schierloh and my father Ralph L. Garner (Engineer/Top Turret) were assigned to other crews to complete their last missions. The November 30th mission on which Schierloh was POW was his 23rd mission and his first not flown with familiar crew members.
